In 2015, Kingdom for Energy Investments Company acquired 30% of Zahrat Al Salam for Energy Generation PSC, a company established for the development, construction, and operation of 10 MW solar Photovoltaic (PV) plant.
Zahrat Al Salam won a 20-year contract in the first round of direct renewable energy proposals with the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources in Jordan. A Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) allows the project to sell electricity to the National Electric Power Company (NEPCO).
The solar PV plant is located in Ma’an Development Area, 218 km south of the Capital Amman and has a significant positive impact on the environment. By producing electricity from a renewable source, this project reduces CO2 emissions by 14,307 tons per annum by avoiding the use of conventional polluting resources.
