International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank, funded the construction of seven solar plants in Jordan, Hosha for Energy Generation was one of them. This project is considered to be the biggest private sector-led initiative in the Middle East and North Africa and is expected to transform the energy sector in Jordan by boosting its use of Renewables.
Hosha for Energy Generation is one of the biggest plants with 20 MW capacity of solar Photovoltaics (PV) installed on 200 Acres in Al Mafraq, 50 km to the North East of the capital, Amman.
Kingdom for Energy Investments Company acquired 30% of Hosha for Energy Generation to help the government meet the increasing demand for electricity in Jordan. Under a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA), Jordan Solar One will provide the National Electric Power Company (NEPCO) with clean electricity for 20 years.
In addition to supplying the locals with sustainable energy, this project benefited the community on different levels through technical training, mentorship and scholarships to increase the social impact.
